Great with vegetables, pasta and Roasted Garlic Toast. Use as a dipping sauce at parties for shrimp, vegetables, unsalted chips and fried pork.

Ingredients



  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (trace)
  • 1/4 cup water (0 mg)
  • 1 14.5 oz can No Salt Added Tomatoes (Hunts, S&W, Pathmark, others) (76 mg)
  • 4 garlic cloves (2.04 mg)
  • 1 medium onion (3.3 mg)
  • 1 teaspoon oregano (.22 mg)
  • 1 teaspoon basil (.479 mg)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves (1.275 mg)
  • 1 bay leaf (.137 mg)
  • 8 ounces mushrooms (7.36 mg)
  • pepper to taste (trace)



    Heat olive oil in large sautè or fry pan. Chop and sautè for only a few minutes onion and garlic and mushrooms. Add tomatoes and spices. Before serving, remove bay leaf. When thoroughly heated may be served with steamed veggies, ground round or ground turkey over any 8oz bag of boiled pasta. Best way to add ground meat is to dry fry it in a nonstick pan, crumbled, then add to sauce toward the end of the sauce cooking period. Sauce alone works great with Roasted Garlic Toast as a dipping sauce. See Index for Roasted Garlic Toast.

    For Vegetarians:
    Exchange the 149.2 mg for the meat with the following:
